TV Gal Lists a Few of Her Favorite Things
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - - Raindrops on the island and whiskers on Sawyer ... that's right, a brand new episode of "Lost" tied up in string, is one of my favorite things. Let's take a look at some of the other things on TV these days that make me smile:

  • Drew Lachey on "Dancing with the Stars": It is inexplicable how much I'm rooting for Drew (that "Thriller" dance he did a couple of weeks ago? I actually cheered as if somehow he could hear me). I don't understand my devotion to Drew or why I'm so happy to see his brother Nick there week after week robotically clapping. And truly nothing can explain how I kept trying to vote for him until I stopped getting a busy signal. Last week I actually found myself thinking, "Oooh, maybe they'll dance to a 98 Degrees song next week." (I'm thinking "Give Me Just One Night") If things go my way, it will be Drew versus Lisa Rinna (another candidate I'm inexplicably rooting for) in the final showdown. Oh, and the final dance the couple does after being kicked off? Love it. It's like the last dance at prom.

  • Jack Has Conversations with Loved Ones over the Telephone on "24": Ever since Tony and Michelle made out in season two, this is my all time favorite thing about "24" -- preposterous personal conversations in the midst of an international crisis. Jack had just seen Audrey face-to-face, but, of course, he has to wait until he's on his cell phone to say "I never stopped loving you. Not for one second." The only thing that would have been better? If he had that conversation while hovering in a helicopter. Such good times.
  •
  • Jim and Pam on "The Office": We all agree that "The Office" is experiencing a creative high this season, but nothing is more endearing, more heartfelt, more charming than the awkward, what to call it -- denied courtship? -- between Jim and Pam.

  • Personal Lives on "Without a Trace": I continue to love how subtly this show gives us glimpses into the character's personal life. Jack wears a new snazzy tie and a look of pain flashes across Samantha's face. Martin fidgets uncomfortably while talking to Viv and then digs his drugs out of the trash. Like the real people we work with, "Without a Trace" reminds us that we don't know everything about our co-workers.

    Save "Everwood"

You know, we've been together a long time and weathered the cancellation of many beloved shows ("Freaks & Geeks," "Once and Again," "Joan of Arcadia"). But I'm telling you, and I don't want to scare anyone, there might be actual wailing in the streets if "Everwood" isn't picked up for next season. So let's pull together, light those candles and do what we can. Thanks to Jeff and Kate who were the first to send me the link to http://saveeverwood.blogspot.com/.

Where Have I Seen Them Before?

Well, one and all were very excited to see Kali Rocha, everyone's favorite demon Halfrek on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," is Dr. Bailey's temporary replacement on "Grey's Anatomy." Rocha can also be seen in the new NBC comedy "Teachers" premiering Thursday, April 6.

John was the first to recognize Leisha Hailey, Alice on "The L Word," played the newlywed with the flesh eating virus. Don't forget we saw Hailey as the hirsute woman on "CSI."

Megalyn Echikunwoke was Cassie, Dean's ex-girlfriend on "Supernatural." Echikunwoke was Nicole Palmer on "24" and Angie on "That '70s Show."

Al recognized Ana Ortiz, Anna on "Over There," was on both "Commander In Chief" and "Boston Legal" the same night. She was seen earlier this season as Gina, Freddie's date of the week on "Freddie."

Merle and Margaret caught Tim DeKay, Clayton Jones on "Carnivale," was Earl's friend in jail Hank on "My Name Is Earl." Others may remember DeKay as Rev. Keyes on "Everwood" and I'll always remember him as Kirsten's husband Paul on "Party of Five."

    Quotes of the Week

"I'd like to thank Ang Lee for taking a chance on me." Sean Hayes accepting his SAG Award for "Will & Grace."

"I'm done talking with you. You understand me. You read my file. First thing, I'm going to take out your right eye." Jack to Walt Cummings finally getting him to confess on "24." I'm telling you right now, if someone read my file, the terrorist would be like, "What's the worst you can do? Talk my ear off?"

"Please don't come back again. It's pointless. Can't you just watch next year?" Simon to the psychic contestant on "American Idol."

"We advise you to use your calls wisely, because, you know, the White House is listening." Tom Bergeron on "Dancing with the Stars." Thanks to Paul for the quote.

"Well, hopefully people who don't want to reuse a paper cup won't mind buying SPF 5000 for their grandkids when the rain forest is gone, the ozone layer is a doily and the human race is bursting into flames." Paris' rant to Rory on "Gilmore Girls." Thanks to Melissa for the quote.

    Highlights of the Week Ahead
All times listed are Eastern Time for Feb. 6 to 12

It's the season -- and most likely series -- finale of "Surface" at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Thankfully, we're reaching the end of the audition phase of "American Idol" (Tuesday, FOX, 8 p.m.). I'm so all set with the series showing awful singer after awful singer. I'm tired of it and somewhat uncomfortable watching all these deluded people who think they have talent. And I've also had enough with the Simon/Paula/Randy faux fighting. Memo to all of them: Even if it's for real, it seems so calculated and staged. Thankfully "American Idol" moves to Hollywood Wednesday at 8 p.m. on FOX.

Things get very complicated for Stacy and House in this week's episode of "House" (Tuesday, FOX, 9 p.m.). I worry sometimes about how cruel they are making the cranky Dr. House. His comments to patients are becoming increasingly vicious. No matter how brilliant he is, who would tolerate his behavior? It's a fine line with a character like House. The best thing about the two upcoming episodes is that the fabulous Robert Sean Leonard is getting more screen time. He's particularly amusing in next week's episode. This week look for Dakota Fanning's little sister Elle Fanning to play the daughter of patient Julie Warner and Edward Kerr (Rick on "What I Like About You.")

Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, Keith Urban, Sugarland, Jamie Foxx, Kanye West and Madonna are among the performers at "The 48th Annual Grammy Awards" at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Oh won't you come in to my world of denial ... it's a world where Vaughn isn't dead on "Alias," Dina will return to "24," and there's no way, despite what is being widely reported, that Duncan is gone for good on "Veronica Mars" (Wednesday, UPN, 9 p.m.). This week, Veronica helps Jackie (who is kind of growing on me) while more mysteries of the bus crash are revealed.

Whoo-hoo. Melinda Clarke's Lady Heather returns to "CSI" (Thursday, CBS, 9 p.m.). If only she could give Nick a makeover while she's there.

Speaking of denial ... "Arrested Development" ends its run on FOX with four back-to-back episodes beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday. But I remain confident that Showtime will pick up the series.

Alas, the four episodes of television's best comedy air opposite "The Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games" Friday at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Suddenly adultery is all the rage on TV these days and no one is on a more slippery slope than Dr. McDreamy on "Grey's Anatomy." No matter how cute and earnest he is, I don't want to see him cheat on his wife. And here's a fun fact, TV Gal reader Maria remembered that Sandra Oh and Kate Walsh were a couple in the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun." Last week's episode was called "It's the End of the World" and this week's is "(As We Know It)" (Sunday, ABC, 10 p.m.). So we're not out of the code black yet.

To the TV Gal Reader Belongs the Spoils

You so know the rules. Don't read if you don't want to know.

Rory will be very upset to learn how Logan spent their time apart on "Gilmore Girls." Let's just say he wasn't selling Girl Scout cookies. Christopher will also reappear this February while Rory attends the wedding of Logan's sister.

When the ratings are down, what's a show to do? Well first of all, Horace will get a girl pregnant on "Commander In Chief." And Rod will be caught in a compromising position with an intern.

Okay, here's some very big gossip I'm hearing another character will die on "Lost." I won't tell you who just yet, but more clues to come.

As "That '70s Show" approaches the end of its run, look for things to heat up between Randy and Donna.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan will get all sorts of play this February. He'll return to "Grey's Anatomy" as the heart patient after Izzie's heart and he'll help his sons out on "Supernatural."

That's all for today. I'll be back next week with an early look at some of the pilots for next season I'm already excited about (Matthew Perry and Aaron Sorkin together again), "ER," "Gilmore Girls" and more.
